We’re back with another solo episode of Quantum Growth for Financial Advisors with Jon Kuttin.

In this short, high-impact strategy session, Jon challenges advisors and firm leaders to rethink how they pursue growth—and why continuing to focus on “table stakes” activities almost always leads to linear results. Drawing from recent leadership offsites and his own firm’s strategic planning work, he explains why even accomplished leaders often lack the skill of defining the right leading indicators, KPIs, and initiatives required to achieve true 10x growth over a decade.

Jon walks through a real-world EOS and VTO vision exercise, recounting a beachhead leaders workshop where combined 10-year revenue targets fell far short of the firm’s ultimate ambition. That gap prompted a reset of the firm-level BHAG and a reframing of three-year milestones as critical checkpoints toward a much larger ten-year goal. The takeaway: if your three-year plan doesn’t force new capabilities to exist early, your ten-year vision is already at risk.

Jon then brings the concept to life with a concrete example—building a scalable external recruiting and business development engine. Jon breaks down what it actually takes to stand up leverage: hiring, scripts, training, compensation, KPIs, and systems. He shares how committing just five focused hours per week to this initiative led to the creation of a 13-person BD team executing large-scale outreach and building a meaningful advisor recruiting pipeline.

The episode closes with a clear call to action: stop managing solely by lagging indicators like revenue and AUM, and start designing leading indicators that reflect where you’re investing time and attention today. Jon urges leaders to schedule regular deep-thinking time—a “Ray Day”—to ensure their annual priorities are aligned with their ten-year vision.
